Unpacking shoes and hair styling things is like unpacking a paean to the person I obviously wish I was. :p

Nearly unworn heels, bought in a fit of I don’t even know what, except the joy of having discovered heels that were wide enough for my feet. A couple pair have reasonably low heels; I remember thinking they might be walkable-in. And maybe they are, if I was someone else who wore clothes that one wears heels with. And walked less than an average of 5 miles a day. And. And. And.

A couple years ago I discovered pincurls. Sometime not long after that I found some “don’t have to sleep in them just blowdry your hair in them ‘cold’ curlers” which of course don’t work and I’ve never, nor is there much chance that I will, slept in them or indeed even manage to first mousse my hair before doing the curl-and-dry factor (which would increase its likelihood of success by a significant margin). A curling iron which also has very little effect on my hair (they never have unless my hair was permed first). An improbable number of hair ties, ribbons, barrettes, headbands and other stuff, when what I use is bobby pins and ponytail holders.

I actually find this really depressing.

Sympathies. I bought a packet of hairpin y'day and cannot find them. I must have about 70 packets and can't find any of them. I CAN find hairgrips that I can't use. Back to the scrunchie.....

I hear you. I do and can wear heels sometimes - maybe half a dozen times a year - but I wear boots or trainers mostly so I just had to go buy summer work shoes - which are hurting.
My hair straighteners are used so infrequently that it's a mystery why I have 2 cheap sets.

But what I really want to know is where on Earth all the ponytail elastics go... I seem to buy a new batch every month.

Cats. Cats consider all scrunchies and elastics to be their Rightful Prey. Check under the sofa.

If anyone has any barrettes they feel the urge to toss, I will give them a good home. I wear my hair in a knot these days and pins are utterly useless but barrettes actually hold my baby-fine hair in place with reasonable success....

I have a blowdryer with diffuser that I've used twice in ten years (both times 10 years ago) and a set of foam curlers that I have never ever used....And three bottles of yummy smelling scent that I've only worn a couple times.... *sigh* time for all those things to go away, I think...

I hear you on this. I had a lot of gorgeous clothes from Lifestyles Ago that I swore I'd keep and wear once again, someday... but the truth is that I'm tired and now comfortably-mom-padded, and I'm never going to be that sleek teen or shiny 20-something convention girl in corsets and long dresses, or even that stylish business-suited thirty-something again.

So I took all those clothes, petted them once, and ruthlessly threw them into a bag with all the shoes that are pretty but hurt and all the purses that I no longer have any place to use, and all the stuff that basically makes me discontent with who I am now... and took it to a charity drop.

Now I don't have to stare at them. I'm pretty sure that's an improvement, but some part of me says, "You have given up your dreams of a thinner, more glamorous, more stylish you!" -_-

"You have given up your dreams of a thinner, more glamorous, more stylish you!"

This, yes, exactly.

...and then I went and got red streaks put in my hair, and red and gold and bronze colored hair tinsel, and I bought glittery eye make-up, and I use it daily.

I figure I already write about aliens and elves and space ships. If I'm going to be doomed to eccentricity, I might as well look startling. -_-

I hear you.

It's getting on time for me to do a closet purge myself, but I always feel the twinge about the money--"That cost $50! That cost $120! You're just gonna get rid of it!?"

Well, yeah. I don't get the money back if I keep it in my closet, and I need space more than I need the fantasy that someday I will want to cosplay as as the goddess Athena or wear four-inch blue velvet wedge sandals.

But it still twinges. I probably need to go put on an episode of Hoarders to get in the mood.

I've gotten past the money twinge thing, but not the "Someday I will be fabulous, honestly," thing. I don't know why I think someday I'll be fabulous as a matter of course. I've never been regularly fabulous in my life.

I just did a shoe purge and got rid of about a third of my shoes, sandals, and boots--many of them because they were so uncomfortable I never wore them. Also, some heels. Sigh.

The bathroom shelf is up next. NOT looking forward to it. My blow dryer only gets used when I have to put the winterizing plastic on my windows :-)

When we moved last I finally purged two drawers worth of hair ties, clips and bands since I've been wearing my hair short for 8-10 years

....and somehow I've let it get long again.

My ponytail holders have gone walkabout - I'm left with some nearly dead ones. But I too have a grand supply of stuff I don't actually use on my hair. It's interesting - we should do a show and tell sometime!

My collection of Fang-restraints seems very sad and forlorn now that Fang has departed leaving me with shortish hair. I'm growing it out again but will probably never justify the longer chopsticks. (I do have some more petite hairsticks that I can probably use in another few months.)
