Picoreview: Supernatural, S7

Picoreview: Supernatural, Season 7: The poor boys.

I mean, that’s pretty well the picoreview for any season of Supernatural, and S7 was not the worst of what they’ve been through. (Nevermind that I spent two Bobby episodes and the Felicia Day episode gnawing on my knuckles and with my knees drawn against my chest.)

I do love this show. I’d kind of paled on it in s6, and we hadn’t gotten around to watching s7 (obviously), but then Amanda Tapping was announced as being in s8, so we had to watch s7 so we’d know, well, the road so far. And s7 largely renewed my fondness for it, it seems. (It still should’ve ended with s5, but I will take Beating A Dead Horse, Pretty Boy Style, for a few more years.)

There’s a part of me that would kind of like to write a SPN novel. They’ve got such good voices (Dean particularly) and they have all the emo angst in the world. And then some. (Presumably if I wrote a SPN novel it would be set in, or at least drive through, Seattle, where Baby would need some part and the boys would stop by a certain garage… :))

Actual spoilers behind the cut.

AUGH BOBBY NO NO NO AUGH NO WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUGH WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Mischa Collins has the best part on the show. He’s gotten to play more variants of Castiel than almost any TV show regular gets to do, and I just imagine he must be full of squee and giggles over that. I loved Crazy Castiel. Love love loved him. Also, dear mercy, that man is pretty. I think in profile he’s one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen, but full on he’s ridiculously pretty too.

Meg may well be the second best character on the show, just for the sheer variety of actresses who have played her. Of course, there’s also Crowley, who is just, well, Mark Sheppard, say no more. It’s really a terrifically good cast.

Dick Roman made me laugh every time he did his mouth-only smile. That must have gotten him the part, the ability to not involve his eyes or even his cheeks in a smile at all. He was splendidly nasty with that smile. I loved it. :)

Speaking of false smiles, the shot of Dean trying on his smile after Frank has ripped him apart was just heartbreaking. Dean’s always been my favorite, a’course, and watching that moment of him trying to move on was just, yeah. Woe!

I know it’s unofficial, but I do love Wayward Son as SPN’s theme song. I mean, their musical score never fails (know what has music as good as SPN’s? Defiance.), but I always get a thrill when the THEN/NOW becomes THE ROAD SO FAR and that song comes on. It just works for me.

Now we have to watch s8. And this is the one great beauty of leaving TV to watch later: we can watch s8 NOW. (Of course, what I’ve heard about the s8 finale, which is “AAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!!!!!!!!!!!” suggests maybe we should wait until s9 is out… :))
