Recent Reads: STONEMASTER

Okay, this one’s kind of a cheat, I admit it. STONEMASTER is the (working title for the) second book I’ve written for my nephew, out of a planned quadrology, and about 25 people in the world have read the first one. That’s about the number that will read the second one, too, until I acquire an agent and a book deal, but the reason for reading it was to prepare myself for writing the third book in the series.

These are (from an admittedly biased point of view) pretty rollicking good adventures, I think, and they’re great fun to write. Or they’re great fun when I’m doing it right, anyway (it’s a 65K book. I wrote 80K of Wrong Book before getting it right), and just crash along at top speed from one adventure to another. It’ll be keen to get them out into the world sometime.

So I have a foolish and desperate hope of writing book 3 by the end of June. Yeah. Right. While moving. But, well, I’m going to try a Nanowrimo in June anyway, because I’ve done extremely little writing this year and my sense of self worth is through the floor.

So if anybody wants to do a June WriMo with me, that would be awesome. I said hopefully. :)

I'm starting to get cranking on Baba Yaga #2--I'm in! (I'm not going to hit 50K, but I'm definitely going to be in serious writing mode.) Maybe we can email each other with daily totals...despite the complex that's likely to give me.

And I can't believe after all the books you've got out, you don't have an agent!
kitmizkit on May 31st, 2013 08:04 am (UTC)
My agent and I parted ways earlier this year. :)

Ah. That happened to another author friend and a second one is considering it. Hopefully you'll find a new one that's a perfect fit soon.

Well, I can at least promise to keep you company in the war room. Unless you plan to write at the cinema :).
kitmizkit on May 31st, 2013 08:10 am (UTC)
I think I'll be using the war room for the most part! We'll see. :)
Deborah Blakedeborahblakehps on May 31st, 2013 02:41 pm (UTC)
There's a war room?
kitmizkit on May 31st, 2013 02:45 pm (UTC)
investigate the toonowrimo community for details.

Ah. Signed up, but whether I'll actually manage to take part...who knows? (I tend to get delayed messages from LJ)
kitmizkit on June 1st, 2013 03:32 am (UTC)
Just log in whenever you're going to write and see if anybody's around. You can posts to the LJ yourself, and people come in and out randomly all the time. :)

I'm invoking zotoku and working on some rewrites for one novel and picking back up my other WIP (the one that I'm still bribing myself with Baba Yaga's Daughter to get to 50k on). I'll be in, hopefully warring a lot.

I am hoping it sells, so I can read it. You write wonderful books.
And hug.
joycemocha on May 31st, 2013 10:05 am (UTC)
Sure. Why not?

(Um, because Netwalk's Children isn't planned and plotted yet? EEEP!)

But yeah, I'm in a serious writing mode as well. I NEED to write a lot this summer.
kitmizkit on May 31st, 2013 11:24 am (UTC)
You have about 15 hours left to plan and plot, then! :)
Chrysoulachrysoula on May 31st, 2013 02:39 pm (UTC)
Yes. Junewrimo. Since I am now in the position of tossing out 45k and starting over myself.

I won't be writing a book, but I will be writing all of the social studies curriculum for the 7th - 12th grades... I'm in. (:

I should not, what with promised Kickstarter art and needing to get my serial spinning back up and the baby and the extended family in town and the garage that is being build and the housebuilding tasks and the unexpected (but juicy-paying) programming jobs I have lined up out the door...

But then I think, I could do this WITH the serial.

And then I think: NO ELLEN, BAD ELLEN, NO COOKIE, because I'm trying no to be quite so crazy.

Short answer: not sure. Crazy parts may win.

Considering I was forced to resign and my paycheck runs out in the middle of August, I NEED to get cracking the writing whip. It might not be 50K all on one project, but I'm game to write that much.
