Kitsnaps: Charles Fort

Charles Fort
Charles Fort
So when my friend Emily came over, my friend Kate took us on a truly magnificent lecture tour of Kinsale and surrounds. I took roughly six billion pictures and have posted nearly none of them. This is Charles Fort in Kinsale, which has a rich and wonderful history that you should really get Kate to tell you, but one bit of it is that they finished building it on low ground at exactly the same time moveable cannons that could shoot a lot farther were developed, and so its wonderful strong thick seaward-facing walls were a lot less safe than one might have imagined, what with the hills just behind the fort into which the enemy could drag cannon and shoot the shit out of them.

Still: an excellent place to hole up come the Zombie Apocalypse.

Hee! The picture started to load and I said, "Hey! I've been there!"
That was a great day.
I want some more of those.

I have utter shit-tons of pictures, which I need to go through. But I'll post more over the coming, um, months. Realistically. :)

Yeah, Kate likes taking people there.

(We've visited Kinsale twice. Once before we met her, once after. A place changes when you have a local guide.)

I think that, having re-learned all the history so she could tell it to me and Emily, she's particularly delighted to be able to share it around further. :) We had *such* a great day out with her!

It's the day that I want more of. I mean, the pictures are nice, too, but having several more awesome days would be, er, awesome.

We still have to do a proper tour when then places are open and I can take you round the insides...

We were so blessed with the weather.

And I do love talking about the place - You have yet to do the tour of Kilkenny with me. Though I'd have to brush up for that now too..
