dreamcoat

(but not the technicolor kind)

Last year when I was doing pinup girl stuff, I had a quite vivid dream about a coat that went with one of my outfits. I’ve been meaning to do a sketch of it, and finally got around to it. It’s got a ridiculous full skirt, one that would genuinely require a crinoline of its own in order to make it fall properly (because in the dream it did, in fact, fall as I have drawn it), and it would be huge fun to own. Maybe someday I’ll make it. In my copious free time.

Wow, that's a helluva...peplum, I think it's called?

I love the art style on the drawing, though, simple sketch or not. It's fascinating!

Oh, you like it? I mean, the style? It's pretty much--if I practiced, see, I'd be quite a good artist. Natural style, that, using pen and ink. Which for some reason I really like. I find the whole fact that if you screw up it's immutable somehow freeing.

Yeah, I do. :) Studying it, I think I really like the simplicity of the black and white lines with the spare use of similar lines of color. It's not colored in, but it doesn't need it, the mind's eye knows exactly what's supposed to be there, even registering that there is technically white space. It's an interesting technique.

I am not a trained art critic, so I feel sorta terrible explaining why I like something. :)

Hah. Yes, that's why I like it too, although I tried using it on a costume design in a costuming class in college and got raked over the coals for not showing the costume colors properly. *eyeroll*

That's a lovely jacket. Rawr.

That's really lovely.
Also, you can draw as well as being a talented writer? I am awed.

I'm a good enough artist to know how good I'm not. It's really very easy for me to see the "and this is where another Kit timeline splits off" moments are in my life: in that world, I pursued photography; in this one, I became an artist; in that one, I act...

It's like an umbrella for your legs! ^_^

wonder if we could create something like an umbrella underneath....

What were you doing up at that hour :-(
