I need a whiteboard.
Or something like a whiteboard, so I can write down the next day's activities on it without forever posting thinks lists to LJ. Perhaps that would help me to remember, say, doing the laundry (which I still haven't started today). And exercise. And things like that. Or maybe it'd just hang unused, but it'd be an attempt, right? Right.

I'm suffering from Chaz's usual Difficulty With Delivery Men. Having missed yesterday's delivery, I am now waiting at home obediently for a delivery which might be "a little later" than yesterday's 10am delivery. It's now noon. I could've gone out and done errands by now. I could have showered by now. I could have done any number of things, but instead I'm sitting here in the fear of missing the delivery man. I was able to make brownies, though, 'cause that's an occupation one can dash to the door during.

On the positive side, I've finally finished reading FRANKENSTEIN, which, my God, I don't think I've ever read a duller book with a less sympa...no, I've read two with a less sympathetic protagonist, but one of them was more interesting up to the point I stopped reading it. Anyway. God. At least that's done with and I don't have to do it again. o.O

I also finished "The Christmas Hollidays" short story, but for the first time in history I've sent a short out to beta readers because the ending seemed Very Spoilerful. The two readers who have responded so far agree, and think I should cut it somewhere other than where I intended to, at a place which is far, far more agonizing than what I'd planned. So it's their fault. :)

So now I just have to write the new Old Races story and then I can spend the Christmas weekend reading instead of writing. I have three ARCs from friends, the new TWENTY PALACES novel by Harry Connolly, Kate Elliott's Gate Trilogy, the latest 2 or 3 Cast novels by Michelle Sagara, and I just started reading HIDDEN STEEL by Doranna Durgin, and it's wonderful so far.

...there's no way I'm getting all that read before next Monday (and that's just what I can remember, nevermind the pre-Napoleonic War history I'm trying to ingest), but I'm gonna give it the old college try.

I wish I knew how to make WP post to LJ again. I guess I'm gonna have to go find a new crossposter. :p

Frankenstein is one of the foundations on which later fantasy and science fiction is built. And like most foundations, what has been built on it is far more interesting.

Yeah. I just was a little taken aback at how painful it was.

You can have mine...

If you don't mind the old notes from when I was prepping my apartment back in 2007...
(Nope, didn't use a permanent marker. Seems all whiteboard markers become permanent if you leave the ink on for long enough... )

Write over them with fresh markers and you can usually wipe them off. :)

Must remember to try that, the next time I buy markers... The old ones dried out a couple of years ago...

Stop mocking me with your advanced access to Cast books! You'll make me cry! (Tangentially related, I just finished Cast in Chaos and liked it so much.) :)

No, this isn't advanced access, I'm like two and a half behind!

Oh, that's okay then. :)

I am not sure if they sell them anymore, but you used to be able to buy small whiteboard thingies that you put on the fridge. Now, this was like 20 years ago or something...

Just remembered.

Back when I was in the RNoAF(decades ago...) we had a 'homemade' whiteboard for keeping track of certain types of inventory.
It was a large piece of plexiglas where someone had painted black lines on the back, then hung it on the wall.

We used some sort of vax pencils, though, but I believe whiteboard markers should work just as well. And if you hand it with hooks or hinges, so that the back is easily reached, you can draw grids, calendars, floorplans or anything else you want on paper and stick them behind the plexiglas.

re: Whiteboard
Until you get a better replacement, you can use your windows! We had a big sliding glass window and used to use that for a whiteboard. Whiteboard markers work on glass. Just don't put up anything that you don't want to share!
