totally unfair.

Yesterday I went into one of the second-hand shops and found a vintage 1970s (don’t look at me like that, the 70s are vintage now) full-skirted ankle-length red leather coat for fifty quid.

It was one size too small. Not one “if I knock off fifteen pounds it’ll fit” too small, but one “it would require major reconstructive surgery either on the coat or my shoulders to fit well enough to lift my arms more than thirty degrees” too small. *Totally* unfair. However, if anybody reading this has a burning desire to own a vintage red leather coat in a size 14 (or 12, if you like your coats a little roomy), I know where you can find one. :)

It’s probably just as well this shirt doesn’t come in baby sizes. I’m tempted to buy one for a quarter century hence, though. :) (hat-tip to Lithera for the link!)

I need to go answer a bunch of email, empty the compost and wash the diapers. I’m sure there are other things I need to do too, but that’ll be good for today, anyway.

No! Bad Kittie!

(Trust me, you wouldn't want your eldest banged up for matricide, no matter how justified.)

Oh man, I'd have bought it anyway just on the off chance that someday I'll magically lose 50lbs and could fit!! :-D

Believe me, if it had been the sort of "doesn't fit because I'm fat" fit, I might well have done. :) But it really was too narrow across the shoulders, and didn't come close to buttoning over my boobs. I wear a size 16 coat, no way to avoid that. :)

Let me check what size coat I wear, but I'd probably say "done"! I normally wear a 10-12 shirt, I think, so that'd fit PERFECTLY.

Fuck it, yeah. DONE.
kitmizkit on July 12th, 2011 01:52 pm (UTC)
oh yes. you're narrower through the shoulder than i am. I bet it would fit you!

Am I off to buy it for you, then? :)
Geek of Weird Shit: sensualgows on July 12th, 2011 02:25 pm (UTC)
If you would, please! As long as the upper arms aren't tailored too thin, I should be good to go. :)

We'll need photos to drool over compliment you on, of course!

I think the arms will be okay. I'll try it on again tomorrow and see how they feel. They were tight on me, but that was partly because the shoulders just don't fit, and I specifically remember the tightness as being when I lifted (or tried lifting) my arms. :) Cool, I'll get it in the morning!

Yeah I'm the same way: I'm an 18 and to find anything truly "vintage" that fits I'd need a 30 or somesuch. *sigh* All those things about Marilyn Monroe wearing a size 14? Yeah, back then that was equivalent to about a size 8 nowadays! :-/

the 70s are vintage now)

(looking in my closet) Really? I still have shoes from then... nice high shoes...
kitmizkit on July 12th, 2011 07:22 pm (UTC)
I"m afraid so. But on the plus side, if you wear those shoes now you will be TOTALLY COOL. Again. :)

the lovely size 10 brown velvet embroidered clogs with the 4 inch platforms, as pretty as they are, would probably lead to my early death ...

I'm told there are now historical romances set in the 1980s.

And if I recall correctly, in the 1980s US women's fashion magazines were featuring recreations of clothing from the 1960s.

squirrel_monkey was giving away this gorgeous frock coat last week and if I could have lost about a foot and a half of height I would have jumped on it.
