brave new world

Facebook informed me this morning that Osama bin Laden is dead. People seem happy about this. I can’t really say I’m happy–I don’t generally get a lot of delight out of people being dead–but the really cynical part of me is glad on his behalf that he’s dead and not alive to be tortured.

So if we live in a brave new world today, if you could do one thing to improve that world yourself, what would it be?

thinks to do (not to improve the brave new world, i’m afraid):
- clean the upstairs bathroom. possibly by firebombing it.
- ditto the computer room
- ever more laundry
- start Biali short story
- start ANGLES revisions
- salad shopping stupid frakking bank holidays
- email juliet, karen, laura
- wash diaper wraps
- clean kitchen (it never ends)
- make bread (thus necessitating cleaning the kitchen again…)

I think each of the tasks you have set yourself are very important parts of improving the world, especially the writing stories part of the list.

The big things get all the press, and create most of the chaos. It is doing the little things that keep the Universe running.

Sounds like you're doing some of the same thing I'm doing today: creating order out of chaos.

And it is improving the world: starting with your piece of it. It's a start.

*agrees with your cynicism*

Unfortunately the even more cynical part of me has heard he was buried at sea, and now expects claims of his demise are somewhat overwritten.

Yeeeahhh. That had occurred to me last night, too. I didn't bother watching any of the media coverage, though, so I don't know anything about what may or may not have happened to his body.

Quite frankly, I really don't care. The lot of people going on and on and on about him being this horrible murderer and whatnot can sod off, as far as I'm concerned. No sense of perspective, IMO.

Must admit I was a bit creeped out by the people celebrating in the streets when I turned on the tv this morning. . But, ahwell, if it makes them happy...

As for improving the world, I think I'll stick to doing my best to raise the next generation right. Hope spring eternal.
