cake

You know that cake? The one I was embarrassed to send to Ted’s work? Apparently one of his coworkers would like to hire me to bake him another cake like that, because he loved it and it reminded him of home.

*bemused* :)

Well, some food preferences are clearly not about taste but about memory. I, for example, have a wholly irrational attachment to cherry Hostess pies, because it reminds me of being 7 years old, when that (along with a Caspar the Ghost or Ritchie Rich comic book) were my special treat when we would come to Trapper Creek from out in the bush, either just for a jaunt into TC to pick up mail or before hitting the road for FAI or ANC. They actually taste kind of gross, really, but I still occasionally eat one anyways and do so happily....

I have to agree with this. My family owns a bakery and we could make our OWN twinkies (and have, and they are crazy delicious) and I still eat a package of oily, fake ingredient twinkies once in a long while because it reminds me of long car rides to Nebraska, the only time my mother ever let me have twinkies. Apparently store bought baked goods were a novelty when I was seven.

If you grew up with box cake, I can see being nostalgic for it. Especially since even the cake you weren't thrilled probably tasted like a really *good* box cake.

it reminded him of home
You should probably write a memo to yourself to pass on the cake if you ever visit him at home.
Pleading a diet usually works. :)

Where, I wonder, is home for the coworker.
