shoes

Yes, I’m a little obsessed. Move on if you do not share my obsession. :)

I went into Evans today. Evans is a shop which has clothes starting at size 12, and which claims to carry wide shoes. I’d never inspected the shoes, because the ones in the window are the ridiculous 5 inch heel things that are popular right now, and because the shoes are upstairs and buggies, unlike Daleks, do not levitate. But being buggy-less today, I went upstairs, found a nice looking pair of wedges, and asked to try them in the size I’ve been buying.

They were too wide.

I have never in my life, literally never in my life, put on a pair of shoes that was too wide. Agog, I got the next size down, which were a much better fit for length and which were *also* too wide. Not nearly to the degree that the first pair were, but still too wide. Both pairs were extra-wides, but evidently in Evans terms I’m a mere wide. Now I am very impatient for them to get their spring and summer stock in so I can buy some shoes that actually fit!

Also, I can’t decide if these or these are the most magnificent shoes I’ve ever seen, or if one of any of another half dozen or more pairs at Fluevog are the most magnificent. Either way, it’s probably a good thing none of them are likely to fit me, and yet it’s such a very, very sad thing, too…

It's a good thing you have me around. The Fatimas are definitely the most magnificent.

Yes! They have a BOW. You can not out-awesome anything with a bow.

Although the other ones are about as awesome as you can get without a bow.

That's what I suspected, but thanks for verifying it. I fear I would buy them in a heartbeat if I thought there was the slightest chance of them fitting. :)

Ogod I LOVE the second ones!! Witchy shoes!!
kitmizkit on February 16th, 2011 06:22 am (UTC)
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. *dies* They have so many AWESOME SHOES. Usually my weakness is for coats (despite how much I talk about shoes, but that's such an issue of not being able to *find* any), but zomg, those shoes. *dies*

That site is pure shoe porn. It's beautiful. I want to buy all the shoes and string some of them on hooks so I can wear them as earrings when I'm wearing other ones on my feet.

You're not wrong. As I said further down, I'm not a shoe buyer, but I could browse that site for hours :)

The bow worries me. If I had it, it would end up shredded or rumpled or muddy or something.

But Fluevogs are amazingly hot and gorgeous.

(random lurker, here!) i was, weirdly on the evans site today reviewing how wide all of their boots were, so it's good to know you just said how wide they were, that answers all of my questions :D Thank you!!

i am a fluevogger, and in my experience their shoes are fairly narrow (and most are not on the long side of the size either!) but so amazing to behold!!
kitmizkit on February 16th, 2011 06:18 am (UTC)
*sobs* WHY? WHYYYYYYY? WHY MUST THEY BE NARROW WHEN THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL?! *sobs more* Actually, that's good to know, because it helps put the kibosh on my heartwrenching desire for them. (Okay, not really, but if I tell myself that often enough...)

Glad to be helpful WRT the Evans shoes! And hello, Random Lurker! :)

Hello!

I find the Fluevog reviews fairly accurate, though, not all shoes suffer from the "hrm, this is narrow and also hrm, is this really my size?" syndrome, but they are sooooo beautiful and also comfortable! (okay to be fair I have my Zazas on today and they are a tiny bit short for me, see above re: is this really a size 12?!)If you like the doc marten type look, the Angels are *not* narrow and they are way more comfortable, and you won't kill yourself walking on a slippery surface (unlike with our doc friends!)

Fluevog also has the single best customer service program in the history of retail, which is also why i love them so!

I totally love the Dohje ones!

Those are absurdly cute shoes! They're not my style, but I still adore them!

I have tried the Dohje on, and it is truly magnificent on. So comfy -- I've had two pairs w/ that heel, and it's the perfect height -- 2 inches, enough to be sexy but not so high that I'm afraid of falling over.
kitmizkit on February 16th, 2011 06:20 am (UTC)
Yeah, I think 2 inch heels are probably ideal, although super-high ones are awesome if all you're doing is sitting around looking pretty. :)
Megabitchmegabitch on February 16th, 2011 08:04 am (UTC)
Definitely the Dohje. Very nice. Pity I'm not a shoe buyer. I hate shoe shopping - having the opposite problem to you, I'm a UK 2.5 and need "full" shoes because I need to be able to put my arch supports in (I spend a month or so without arch supports and I'm hobbling and in pain for several months once it catches up to me - plantar fasciitis, how I love thee... especially in the "sandal months")

I'm not much for shoes in general, but as one with unusually square feet I share your wonder at the thought of a store in which the shoes are not only wide enough but some of them are actually too wide.

As a kid, I used to have to get shoes that were at least half a size too big for me, just so I could fit the width, and my little toe still got squeezed in from the side. New Balance was a wonder for me because, for the first time, I could actually get shoes that were a comfortable fit. (I'm an 8 4E - a full size smaller than most men my height, but two sizes wider than even a normal "wide" shoe.)

Congratulations on discovering this amazing place.

Kit, you may have a problem. But I like the purply ones better. (I don't like bows on shoes.)

And, I wonder how long it will take for someone to come up with a levitating pram. Or a dalek-shaped pram, that would do as well.

Oh, damnit. I've been toying with the idea of getting boots. And they have a store near me.

Fluevog is god.

You just sent me on a 15-minute droolfest through the Fluvog website. Such pretty, pretty shoes.
