oh, wow.

Oh, wow. A few weeks ago I did several Skype interviews with some 9th grade English students in MA–their teacher reads my books, and she’s been using the Walker Papers short story “Rabbit Tricks” in her curriculum. She and I both thought it would be fun to have the kids talk to the Real Live Author, so I spent several hours talking with several of her classes.

They’ve written me thank-you letters. They just arrived in the mail, and I mean dozens of them. I’ve only read a few so far, but wow, how utterly, *utterly* cool! Wow! *does a dance*! Wow!

That is so awesome. I would have loved to have talk to an author like that when I was a kid. Rad. :D

That experience will be remembered by those kids for a lifetime. And who knows: Maybe in about 20 years some best selling author will walk up to you at a conference or something and give you credit for inspiring his/her career.

And handwritten cards are so underrated these days. Kudos for the teacher to get them to do that for you.

Why thank you! Murphy's books were the first girl-friendly fantasy books that I have ever read. Usually the genre is skewed toward the male gender but I feel that her work is friendly to both. Yes, I also took the opportunity to have them write letters- some of them have never written one before. That is so strange to me but that is why I did it. Representing Massapequa, NY (the school) over here :) I think some of them did realize what a rare opportunity it was to be able to talk with an author. I smiled so much it took my face a few days to stop hurting!
