Indonesian fundraiser

I dunno if you’ve been following the disasters that have been hitting Indonesia lately, but it’s been one thing after another–tsunamis, volcanoes, floods–and every time I hear about one of them I wince, because my “Take A Chance” artist, Ardian Syaf, is Indonesian, and I keep fearing his area will be hammered.

So far it hasn’t been. But Ardian–who has gone on to great things with Marvel and DC (especially DC)–is selling his Batman “Blackest Night” issue one, page one art as a fundraiser for disaster relief in his home country of Indonesia.

It’s $300 with free shipping and all proceeds go to disaster relief.

Somebody on my friends list wants and can afford this, right?

I wish I could afford it. Truly. I've spoken a time or two to Ardian on deviantArt and he's a nice guy. Very talented.

Unfortunately, I can't. But I did want to stop by and say thank you for phrasing it that way "somebody wants it and can afford it".

Because usually when disaster strikes, people say "if you had a hot meal for breakfast, you can afford it; if you had a hot shower today, you can afford it, so you better donate!" And it makes people like me, who are basically eking out a living one paycheck to the next, feel like we're two millimeters tall.

So it was really considerate of you to remember that although people like me wish they could donate or make grandiose purchases in the name of helping the less fortunate -- we're the less fortunate on our own home soil.

And that's really kind of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
