gmail question

Is there a way, in gmail, to automatically send an email to a certain filter? (Label, they’re called labels in gmail. Whatever. A filter.) A way to select all of the email addresses in an archived filter and send one email to all of ‘em? Or a way to suck them all into a contacts mailing list without adding them each individually? Because if there’s not, there really ought to be…

In the meantime (and yes, relatedly), might I remind you that there’s an Old Races novella commission going on? Feel free to spread the word of this (the more official version of that post is here at cemurphy.net, as, hey, online story commissions are essentially grassroots productions, and need all the help they can get. :)

In my contact list, there's a All Contacts tab that has "sucked" out everyone who I've ever mailed or has ever mailed me. Don't know if it does from your Label? From there, you can select who you want and add them to a Group.

lol, yeah gmail has both Labels and Filters. I use the filters to dictate that all of a certain label skip the Inbox and go to another area (accessible from the sidebar). I have a few professional mail lists that I do this with. Keeps the clutter out of my inbox.

My gmail address is saetter and I'm on Google chat all the time. Ping me if you need help. :)

Closest I've found with 15 minutes of play - and it's ugly
Go to the label you want to "send to", Click "Select All". If you have more than a page-full of messages in the folder, you should see a message along the lines of "All 25 conversations on this page are selected. Select all 38 conversations in "House"". Click that, too.

Under "More Actions", select "Filter messages like these". In my tests, this created a new search filter like
From: alice@onenorthpoint.com OR bob@hotmail.com OR charlie@gmail.com OR doug@becu.org OR erica@wini.com OR frank@becu.org OR greg@loanadministration.com OR heidi@becu.org OR inigo.montoya@gmail.com

Copy the list from the "From" box into some editor where you can do a find/replace to change " OR " into ", ". Copy the whole thing, Compose a new email, and paste your address list into the "To" (or CC or BCC) block.

If you are just trying to send an email as part of an autoresponder to a Filter, and not just send a one-time email to a label, you can do this with the "canned responses" experiment.

Turn on "Canned responses" under the "labs" section of "Settings".

"Compose" the default response, and save it as a Canned response.

In the Filter admin tool, choose your Canned response as an action.

Possibly because the messages have already been archived under a label, I'm not getting a "filter messages like these" option after I've selected all the messages. I'm attacking it in a kludgier way now, just by cutting and pasting the screens into a Word doc so I can strip out at least some of the extraneous material and salvage the email addresses. Thank you for the suggestion, though! It almost worked! :)

Oh hey, that kinda worked. Stripping out the extraneous table cells in Word and then selecting the remaining column and 'merge cells' gave me a list of email addresses without any extra formatting. yay!
