novellas, books

Wouldn’t an Old Races novella be a nice Valentine’s Day present for the CE Murphy fan in your life? :)

I, er. *stares at Amazon & at my publishers* Um. Well.

I was going to say “Look, so I’ve got about ten copies of THE FIREBIRD DECEPTION and about twenty-five copies of THE PHOENIX LAW, and I’d really kind of like to move them out of my closet and into somebody’s bookshelf. If you’re interested, I’ll sell ‘em for $5 each, plus S&H (which would be $7 for 1 or $13 for both) and I will of course sign them, let me know in comments or email me.”

Only, because those are the second and third books in the Strongbox Chronicles, and because I don’t have enough copies of THE CARDINAL RULE left to sell any, I went to Amazon so I could get a URL to point people at used copies, and instead found this:

Kindle editions of THE CARDINAL RULE, THE FIREBIRD DECEPTION, and THE PHOENIX LAW, all available as of Monday, February 15th.

Possibly this makes the physical book offer somewhat moot. However, look: they’re cheap on the Kindle and they’re really fun, fast reads, and I practically guarantee you’ll like them. Those are the only books I’ve written which have come nowhere *near* earning back their advances, and it drives me batshit because they’re good fun books, so, I don’t know, how does one launch a massive Kindle e-book campaign to get people to go buy those? :)

ETA: They’re available as of Monday through Barnes & Noble.com, too! Buh!

ETA #2: Down to the last 2 sets of both FIREBIRD and PHOENIX. There are still about, oh, 15 copies of PHOENIX if you want to hunt down books 1 & 2 on your own… :)</b>

I was considering a Nook instead of a Kindle, d'ye know if they will be offered as ebooks through B&N?
kitmizkit on February 11th, 2010 04:54 pm (UTC)
Apparently so. *goes to edit the entry*

I have no Kindle, but I have a shelf of C.E. Murphy books. Sadly, they are lacking in Cate Dermody productions. I would be absolutely tickled to help you clear closet space. Especially if you would sign them before sending 'em to me. :)

Deal?
kitmizkit on February 11th, 2010 05:07 pm (UTC)
Av carse I'd sign them! *edits entry again* :)

I bought copies of the trilogy for my mom, and she loved them. In case I hadn't mentioned it.
kitmizkit on February 11th, 2010 05:06 pm (UTC)
You hadn't, but I am delighted to hear it! :)

I do not use any form of ebook. Although I do enjoy audio books, that is a far secondary runner to real books. I always buy hardcopy of the books I have as audios.

I would LOVE to have both myself.

excellent! two pair down, 8 to go! If you would care to paypal $23 to open AT mizkit DOT com, that would be most excellent, and ... realistically they'll go in the mail Wednesday, because Wednesday is Shot To Hell for writing next week anyway. :) Oh, and send me your address, either to that email address or with the paypal thing. :)

Yeah, they really are fun. They read a lot like watching a good story arc from _Alias_, which is a good thing. Perfect I-wish-it-was-Summer reading! :D
kitmizkit on February 11th, 2010 05:35 pm (UTC)
That was *exactly* what they were supposed to read like, too. I admit this with no shame at all :)

I'm curious. What does it mean for you financially that the didn't' earn out their advance? You have to return a portion of the advance? The publisher won't pay you any royalties until they do earn out the advance?
kit: writing_catedermodymizkit on February 11th, 2010 06:48 pm (UTC)
The latter; publisher won't pay royalties til the books earn out. I don't have to give any money back. *Mostly* what it means is every six months when I get a royalty statement I spend several days swearing about how those books are all four thousand dollars in the hole when they *should* be making money hand over fist. :)

Perhaps if you weren't smuggling free signed copies across national boundaries, people might have to actually buy the pesky things! ;)

(For the record, I did buy the second two. I'm not a *complete* freeloader!)
La Mutant of Reputemutantenemy on February 11th, 2010 08:01 pm (UTC)
I have never read those!! *squee* As I plan on never owning an ebook reader because I prefer the texture and smell of a book (I'm kinda like Giles that way), if you have any left, I would love one of each please. :)

I would love a copy of each of these if you still have a set left.

I much prefer actual books to e-books, but am working on ordering the novella that you are offering as it currently does not exist in a printed format.

Right, USD. Uhm. I've never shipped anything to Australia from Ireland, so how about I go ahead and put them in the mail for you and let you know if there's extra cost, and I'll trust you to pay after they've been sent? Send me your address to open AT mizkit DOT com :)

Thank makes 7 pair down, 3 to go!

As far as I can tell (having just checked LibraryThing), we are missing THE PHOENIX LAW.

So, pretty please, collect it from you at (*bam*tish*) PhoenixCon? That'll save the S&H.

You know, I have copies of all of those, but I bought 'em used so they don't count towards earning out. I'll go buy the ebooks, since presumably those do.
