pre-P-Con dinner

A Sunday afternoon two weeks before Christmas is probably not the ideal time to post this, but it will no doubt come up again and since we were just talking about it I thought I’d post.

Ted was considering doing a pre-P-Con dinner on the Thursday evening before P-Con, which would be the 4th of March, 2010. We had vague thoughts of maybe finding an extended-stay sort of apartment in Dublin that would have a reasonably decent kitchen, and holding a dinner there (rather than attempting to take over someone’s kitchen).

Would anybody be interested? Probably if we did that, with the apartment, we’d need a few euro cover charge or something to help offset the cost of the apartment, but on the other hand, if Brits were coming in early for it, we could probably also manage to get a place that would settle several people for the night, thus also offsetting the cost of an extra night in Dublin…

(x-posted from the essential kit)

*flailing!* Me, oh me.

(hrmmm. If you found an extended-stay apt w/ two bedrooms, we could split the costs, and you could ignore the e-mail I was just composing...)

[EtA: I am coming in wednesday and leaving tuesday. I think...]

Well, we would almost certainly just get the place for the overnight, ourselves, and move to the con hotel for the duration of the weekend. And this is the website I've been meaning to point you at for hotel room deals: rates to go. You can only book a month in advance there, but the rates are pretty good. You'd want Dublin City Centre as your choice. The con hotel is the Central (http://www.centralhoteldublin.com/), which isn't far from Grafton Street/St. Stephen's Green/Temple Bar. It'd probably be ideal for you to be able to stay on that side of the river just in terms of getting home in the evenings, but it may be that the cheaper hotels are on the other side, along Abbey Street/Bachelor's Walk.

ah, I wasn't aware you could rent those apartments for only one night -- we usually take 'em for a week or more.

Will check the site, and send along my e-mail anyway. :-)

'Bother!', said Pooh. We would have loved to have joined in, but we already have our (unchangeable) flights booked to come out on the Friday :-( Would the Sunday night be a possibility instead?

Not realistically, I fear. Ted would have to leave the con early Sunday to go do his cooking, and that wouldn't be any fun!

But if it's a rousing success, we'll probably do it again in 2011 and you'll know to come a day early! :)

Eek - absolutely not!

See you in the bar at the Central on the Friday night, then :-)

I would certainly be interested in such a thing and would be more than willing to put some money towards it!

Sadly, that damned ocean gets in the way again!

*sigh* I know. Not to mention, oh, the entire rest of the US from here to the coast.

I would say...
Yes!
But I wouldn't do that to the unsuspecting...

But I will happily come along for after for drinks...
Or offer to watch Munchkins to allow someone else have tasty, tasty foods.

You can't eat eggs and...milk? Anything else? (we could feed you a nice green salad... :))
madmiss on December 14th, 2009 08:11 pm (UTC)
Gluten... that's the one that makes the Milk and Eggs look forgivable!
Oh and this month it has been decided that it might be best if I avoid -Honey and Chocolate...
