I just got the rough cover for DEMON HUNTS, book five of the Walker Papers, due out in June 2010 (and book four is out in three weeks! Yay!). ZOMG. I wish I could show this off to you right now, because it’s going to be amazing. Wow. Wow! Yay! I believe I have a new favorite cover!

Holy crap, speaking of covers, I just saw the cover to the twelfth Dresden Files novel. Holy *crap*. If you’ve been paying any attention, the Dresden Files always have two word titles, same number of letters in each word, always a pun. CHANGES, therefore, is a *huge* freaking change…and I don’t think it’s coincidental that the title style change comes at the halfway point of the series. Holy *crap*, man! My world is set awry! And I have just promised myself I will catch up on the Dresden Files when book twelve comes out. Holy *crap*!

Uh. Reeling from Jim’s cover/title/etc. Uh. Scraping brain cells together…right. Threw out the 5.5K I’d written on RATTLESNAKE DANCES and started over. It’s better now. It may not be *good* yet, but it’s better. I have…no hope of getting it done before going to Belfast, but I may take the Enterprise with me to work on the train (also called the Enterprise), because I work well on trains, & could probably finish the proposal by Monday if I did that. Which would be swell. :)

I reached Minas Tirith today. For the third or possibly even fourth time. Third time, I guess, looking at the stats. That’s 786 miles since last November (man, I should weigh 140 pounds). The next leg of my journey (which, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, is the Walk to Rivendell) could either be a final trip to Minas Tirith with Merry and the Rohirrim (578 miles), or finishing Aragorn’s leg of the journey, which goes to Morannon and back again. I’ve just finished an Aragorn bit, and those two legs are much shorter, 138 & 120 miles respectively, so I think I’ll do them for the sense of accomplishment. I thought it would take until 2011 to finish these outward-bound walks, but, um, well, I’ll probably finish by next March at this rate. Seven years to the month after I started. :)

I made arroz con pollo for dinner, which turned out pretty well (it would’ve been better but I forgot to put salt in. OTOH, salt can be added after the fact). Ted then TOTALLY trumped me because I’d asked him to make something lovely for dessert, and he made an almond tart with fresh strawberries and cream. It was as pretty as it was good. I took pictures. :)

miles to Minas Tirith: 588
ytd wordcount: 210,900

Wow. That is a heck of a cover.

The last book was good but it felt, to me, a lot like it was the tensing before the jump, if that makes any sense.

It makes sense. I'm *waaaay* behind, so I've no feeling for it myself, but the idea makes sense!

For a second there when I read "That's a heck of a cover" I had this panic-stricken moment where I thought I'd posted my own, which I'm not yet permitted to do. *shakes brain* :)

*hugs* I have those moments all the time. "Wait! What did I do? ACK! Oh.. No. It is okay..."

Which book are you on on those?
kitmizkit on August 10th, 2009 09:09 pm (UTC)
Uh. Four. :) I read SUMMER KNIGHT online about a year before it was published, and the published version is apparently about 20K different from the one I read. So I basically just need to start over. :)

I did that! It was awesome!

You can really tell how Jim has evolved as a writer inhaling books 1-10 in about 6 weeks. o.O

Ted continues to be a hero of the gastronemical revolution.

Which is why you don't weigh 140 lbs. after all that walking. *laugh*

*whines* I want Dresden RIGHT NOW. I know hardback is where you authors make all your money, but I have a thing for mass market paperback. SO FAR BEHIND. *whines*

*points to above comments to show how far behind I am, sympathetically*

*sigh* if only I didn't like food. Sweets in particular. I have no willpower. *flat*

(eta: well, actually *round*, and really, Ted rarely makes desserts. my weakness for sweets is almost entirely supported by me...)

And, it's true--I saw your comment after I made my initial one--you're farther behind than me. :)

That Dresden Files cover evokes an "oh shit" from me.
Because... well, because it's Jim. And like you said, halfway through the series, and it's a break from the pattern.

Must have NOW. For the love of all that's good and right in the world, I'd better get the ARC. What good is being a reviewer otherwise?

I really wanna find out what happens next, so I'm excited!

and also rather interested in this walking to rivendell thing.

Walking to Rivendell sucks. All those high level aggro monsters on the switchback up the hill! :)
