nibs & nobs

I am hugely relieved to have put the short story off until the end of the month. I’ve got almost 10K written on it, but it’s just not gelling yet, and there’s a long way to go before it’s done. I’ve printed it out and will be poking at the manuscript for the next few days, but in the meantime I’ve also begun the sixth Walker Papers novel*, tentatively titled RATTLESNAKE DANCES and henceforth referred to as RD. 1200 words done, 108,800 to go. :) (Except this is just the proposal stage, so I’ll only be doing about 10K.)

Ted made red beans & rice for dinner last night. Red beans & rice is possibly one of the finest foods known to man. We had Mom & Dad over, and stuffed ourselves silly, and followed it up with apple crumble. An *entirely* delightful evening. Om nom nom.

I’ve noticed Facebook & Twitter cut down on my impulse to blog longer stuff, even when I deliberately don’t post things there so I’ll have something to write about on the blog. Sadly by the time I get to the blog, I’ve forgotten what they were, or it’s about health care, politics or the economy, and I lack the will.

This is pretty cool: Beluga whale saves diver (hat-tip to Andra for the link!)

*Sixth Walker Papers, not fifth. The fifth, DEMON HUNTS, is done and due out in June 2010. The fourth, WALKING DEAD, is due out next month. People keep getting confused about this, so I thought I’d clarify. :)

August thinks to do:
- proposal for Walker Papers #6
- finish “Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight”
- an essay or two for the Chance GN
- getting together all the materials for that GN
- sekrit project proposal
- Mia script/proposal
- visit Belfast to see the tall ships

miles to Minas Tirith: 558.1
ytd wordcount: 204,800

Red beans and rice is most assuredly a favorite here. But we make ours a bit differently from most people. When we were in Belize, we were introduced to coconut rice. Quick and easy, its a nice change from regular rice in red beans and rice. All you do is add coconut milk to the rice as its cooking (replace some of the water with the coconut).

"Intelligent Belugas were among the first whales to interact with man and have facial muscles that allow them to smile."

This is just awesome.

Red beans and rice are on our shortlist of yum. Yum!

I've been rather sucked into Twitter, pretty much at the expense of LJ. Doth thou actually have a presence there, or just follow people? i.e. I wanna add you to the awesome people I follow (which will put you among such luminaries as Matthew Gray Gubler, Kirsten Vangsness, Brent Spiner, and Wil Wheaton!).

I actually follow very few people there, much like here. A long time ago I decided that the only way I was going to be able to deal with social networking from my spot within it (which is to say, I'm a writer, I want to be available for people to contact and interact with easily) was to follow/friend/read/whatever-term-applies only people I either know in real life or have a professional interest in. Otherwise the sheer volume of people I come into more or less daily contact with would just be overwhelming.

That said, I do /use/ it daily, and respond to people, and I'm @ce_murphy there. :)

It was more along the lines that I wanted to follow you to get updates and such. I'm re-reading Thunderbird Falls, since I got the three Walker Papers books that have been republished as such in mass market paperback. I intend for my trade paperback copies to be loaners now. *G*

<3! thank you for doing that! loaner copies are good! :)

And now, since I'm seeing that there have been sightings of Walking Dead, I'm gonna hit my FLB&N and see if they're among the awesome. *EG*

Theeeeeey probably are, by today. B&N often seems to have my books out on the Saturday previous to the Tuesday upon which they're released (which, despite being officially the 1st of the month, is really the Tuesday prior to that). Good luck! :)

Fingers are crossed!
