cranky internet fogey likes this

Thanks to coffeeem, I have discovered Readability, which is a handy little toolbar widget that allows you to, with the click of a button, render text content into a size, font and margin-setting that you find comfortable to read. I don’t know when I became a cranky internet fogey (actually, anybody who’s been online as long as I have–19 years and counting (and yes, I know, half my friends have been on YEARS longer than that)–is one by definition), but I like this.

Also, I hate Flash-based websites. There. I’ve said it. Take that!

Also, I hate Flash-based websites.

Me, too. They're visually annoying, and they take so much longer to load.

Ooh, lovely! I've been using CTLR++ in Firefox for bigger letters, but that gadget removed everything but the text, which is brilliant. (And I'm feeling so very middle-aged now, grumbling about small text and fancy-schmancy layouts...)

I KNOW, I feel that way too. :)

Thank you!

To minimize Flash annoyance, I use Firefox's flash-blocker plug in, which has been fabulous -- If I really WANT to see something that uses flash, i can click on the little icon that will then let the flash play, but otherwise the flash widgets stay out of my way.

I am so forwarding the link to a friend of mine whose nose is nearly pressed up to the screen when he web surfs.

Flash-based websites? I loathe them. Always have. To me, if a website has to use Flash to get your attention, then obviously the content of said website is sub par at best. Kind of like a man who drives a big red sports car.
