my tbr list

I saw this over at League of Reluctant Adults and thought what a great way to procrastinate! I think I’ll do one too!: a summary of my TBR list. I’ve gotten mine down to around 40 books, so this isn’t an entirely impossible meme to play around with. (Mind you, I’ve done that by setting a moratorium on buying new books last *August* until we had at least half the TBR shelf cleared. I’ve bought _no books_ (um, except the 3 I got Trent to buy for me in the States) since last November, which month was excepted because we went to WFC.)

Swag:
NEW AMSTERDAM, Elizabeth Bear
THE CHAINS THAT YOU REFUSE, Elizabeth Bear
DOES THIS CAPE MAKE ME LOOK FAT?, Chelsea Cain
THE SERPENT BRIDE, Sara Douglass
VENUS ON THE HALF SHELL (& OTHERS), Philip José Farmer

...you know, I thought we had a copy of that...*peers* Huh.

It might be on Ted's part of the TBR shelf. I'm pretty sure we bought it at WFC. :)
ruford42 on May 9th, 2008 10:23 am (UTC)
I love it! I don't think a TBR list works out so well for me, as I tend to grab whichever book is next in the pile or shelf some days and others have to find something to match the mood.

Half surprised that some of the purchased titles are still on the list. Though I found out Breath & Bone was out due to your post and quickly consumed it...

Finally worked my way down to a mere six or seven books left in my stockpile, but it's SOOO HARD not to run out and buy TQB and Warlord and Charlaine Harris's latest...
kitmizkit on May 9th, 2008 10:27 am (UTC)
Oh, I don't read them in order, I'm just anal and they're alphabetized (yes, I even alphabetize my TBR shelf...) so I thought I'd break 'em up into swag and purchased for my own curiosity.

*Many* of those books are still on my TBR list because the writers are so good that I find myself in a pit of despair because I'll never be that good when I read them, so I'm waiting til I have a break so I can get over myself after reading 'em. And I haven't had a break since, um. 3 years ago. :)

*gives you dispensation to go buy TQB* :)

That makes me feel a little better about my tbr shelves... a little ;)
kitmizkit on May 9th, 2008 12:21 pm (UTC)
Is it less dire? Would it make you feel better yet to hear there are another 40 or 50 books on Ted's half of the shelf? :)
-peartreealley on May 9th, 2008 12:34 pm (UTC)
Mine is much more dire :D But seeing someone else's stacks makes me feel better about having a backlog :D
kitmizkit on May 9th, 2008 01:01 pm (UTC)
oh! *laugh* Well, ours used to be more dire. The whole "no buying new books" thing has helped... :)

Bwahaha!! Yeah... Virginia and I got Mark started on that kick when we posted ours. I only have 70 (down to 67 now!!) but she totally won with 107. *facepalm* I don't know any of those writers though! So now I will hvae to go check them out... :) Except Jennifer Fallon. LOVED her first trilogy. Bought the second two for the prequel trilogy and am waiting for the third to come out in paperback. I know that I'll want all of them right there to read straight through.
kitmizkit on May 9th, 2008 12:20 pm (UTC)
Have you read Fallon's Second Sons trilogy? ZOMG good!
mela_lyn: Tea Time Retro Chickmela_lyn on May 9th, 2008 12:39 pm (UTC)
Ooo... no... just the Medalon series. (Right? Medalon? Too lazy to look it up now...) :)
kitmizkit on May 9th, 2008 12:54 pm (UTC)
Read the Second Sons books. They're *incredible*. They make the Medalon books look, well, like a first effort, which they were. I mean, they're a really *good* first effort, but the Second Son trilogy is *brilliant*.

I *am* trying! I'm trying not to get lost under the TBR pile! Especially since books are Very Expensive over here. :)
Lady Doomlithera on May 9th, 2008 12:16 pm (UTC)
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.... Ha ha ha...

Man. I ... Too much to read.

Books on your to read that I have already read:
THE RIVEN SHIELD, Michelle West
THE SUN SWORD, Michelle West
YSABEL, Guy Gavriel Kay
WOLFBLADE, Jennifer Fallon
SEA OF SORROWS, Michelle West

I'm not surprised at the overlap, really. It does make me think we should keep each other in mind for recommendations when either one of us hits a book drought period.
kitmizkit on May 9th, 2008 12:19 pm (UTC)
I'm about halfway through SEA OF SORROWS, but I just didn't have enough brain to hold the (very complex) story in my head while I was trying to write. I really want to finish that series. *snif*

I'm waiting to pick up the other 2 books in the Fallon series before I read that one. Same with the Canavan books. And it's just *killing* me that I haven't read YSABEL yet, but I'll spend a week mooping after I've read it, so I can't do that to myself right now. It's the first thing I'm reading this summer when I'm done writing books. :)

I am *always* open to hearing recommendations! Yay!
Lady Doomlithera on May 9th, 2008 12:30 pm (UTC)
Yeah. The West books are fantastic but they take concentration and time to read. Not that this is a bad thing but I tend to slip into 'reading world'. It is a fantastic payoff, though.

Ysabel.... It took me a bit to realize where it tied into other books he's written. It was a lot easier to read as soon as I had that revelation.
kitmizkit on May 9th, 2008 12:54 pm (UTC)
I'm aware it *does* tie in, and I'm dying to read it and find out how. *kicks feet* :)
Lady Doomlithera on May 9th, 2008 12:56 pm (UTC)
Oh good. It took me like half the book to even figure it out.
kitmizkit on May 9th, 2008 12:58 pm (UTC)
He said, at WFC, he said there's an "ah HAH" moment in the book where everybody finally figures out just *how* it fits in. *kicks feet MORE*
Lady Doomlithera on May 9th, 2008 01:13 pm (UTC)
Heh. That makes me feel a bit better about it, really.

And do you have a firm Chance date yet or am I misremembering that it was still wobbily?
kit: chance2mizkit on May 9th, 2008 01:16 pm (UTC)
To the best of my knowledge the Chance date is September, with preview issues being distributed at SDCC in July. Let us hope that's what actually happens. :)
Lady Doomlithera on May 9th, 2008 01:20 pm (UTC)
*thumbs up*

We'll have to track them down, then.
dqg_nealdqg_neal on May 9th, 2008 03:59 pm (UTC)
ooh, you have some really good books on the list there.
May I suggest you boost PRIVILEGE OF THE SWORD up to the top of your queue?

hegemony hedgehogagrimony on May 9th, 2008 10:39 pm (UTC)
I finally read a C.S. Friedman book and liked it! FEAST OF SOULS. I keep wanting to tell you that but you're never on when I am on and this makes me very very very sad. Very sad. :( Sad.

I read PRIVILEGE OF THE SWORD and it is, I think, the book a snippet of which she read at a con ages and ages and ages ago finally realized. I haven't read the second book in that world, but I read SWORDSPOINT. I /loved/ SWORDSPOINT. I liked PRIVILEGE OF THE SWORD.

VALLEY OF THE SOUL is on my To Be Read. As is THE SUN SWORD - or something related to that book.

Must be something in the air
I'm loving reading other peoples' TBR lists. Give me lots of good ideas! But oh, I did promise not do buy more books until I'd reduced my pile. Aggh!

tbr list
Catie - great minds, I also blogged about this, but looking at your blog, I have quite a few more to add to my list. I'm expecting an avalanche to happen at any moment!
