...and a damned good thing, too!

I am Karrin Murphy.

I head up one of the most thankless jobs in Law Enforcement. Half the department thinks I'm just crazy. The other's simply convinced I'm dangerous. They all think I'm due for an early retirement. And they've all been wrong longer than they'd like.

It's my job to protect the people who can't protect themselves. I'm never one of them. Me and the boys in Special Investigations stand between the rest of Chicago and the darkness, armed only with our guns and our determination.

If you threaten one of them, or anyone I am sworn to protect, I will end you, no matter how many limbs and fangs you have, no matter how many bullets bounce off your scaly hide. I will find a way.

Does this mean I should be keeling over in your office, now?

I am Harry Dresden.

In my corner of the country, I'm trying to nail things down. I don't want to live in a world where the strong rule and the weak cower. I'd rather make a place where things are a little quieter. Where trolls stay the hell under their bridges, and where elves don't come swooping out to snatch children from their cradles. Where vampires respect the limits, and where the faeries mind their p's and q's.

My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. When things get strange, when what goes bump in the night flicks on the lights, when no one else can help you, give me a call. I'm in the book.

I want an Urban Shaman quiz now, plz.

No kidding! How do we get one of those? ;)

Ask Fred. :)

I got Harry. Hee. Let's go fight some evil! For puppies! Oh, come on!

Beggin' your pardon, but that's not Harry....

It's not so much that it was a different series that bothered me. It's that you were quoting the Big Bad, ferchrissakes.

Damned fine line, mind you.
Evil Headdrivingblind on July 13th, 2005 08:32 pm (UTC)
Harry Dresden *did* fight some evil on behalf of puppies, though. See the opener of Blood Rites.
R. Scott Shanks, Jr.mnarra on July 13th, 2005 08:37 pm (UTC)
Well, yes, all right, and I'll grant you that, but Aberdeen was saying the line in a British accent.

Dead giveaway.

[Puzzled look]

I just realized I don't remember what happened to the last puppy. Does Harry have a dog, now?
Evil Headdrivingblind on July 13th, 2005 08:46 pm (UTC)
The dog goes by the name Mouse starting in Dead Beat, and yeah, it's a ... big dog.

[relieved sigh]

Thank you. That would have nagged at me until I got home to the bookshelves...and I'm not really ready for flaming monkey poo again, just yet, in any case.

I haven't read the books yet, but now I'm quite curious about them.

Is this a bad thing?:
I am Susan Rodriguez.

I was a reporter -- and a damned good one. My beat was the supernatural, and my paper was the Midwestern Arcane. I've investigated Elvis sightings, disappearing cities, faerie kidnappings, werewolf rampages, and sarky but irresistable wizards.

Then curiosity got the best of me. The monsters I tried to understand and shed light on caught up with me. Now I'm practically one of them -- held off with the help of the Order of St. Giles.

Now I am the news -- only nobody bothers to report it. The Red Court may be at war with the wizards, but they'd do well to watch their backs. The Order already is.

Nope, just an interesting thing! :)

They're good books. Probably my second-favourite series (after the Black Company, which is unlikely to be surpassed). Definitely worth a read.

Not very similar to what you've read recently, though, as the Dresden files are a bit more grim and gritty. But since you loved Kushiel's Dart, you might like these.

Did you read Zettel's "Fool's War"? That might be closest, in terms of atmosphere (although very different in plot and world).

Hey, you can't be Murphy. I'm Murphy.

Okay, fine. I guess we can timeshare.

Odd, considering my answers. I would not think that answering that I tend to be on the darker side of things would give me the Valkyrie.
