compulsive hair disorder

P-Con is in two days. I keep considering showing up with a shiny new v. short haircut. I have deduced that I feel my hair should either be short enough to show my ears, or long enough to pull back, because with this chin-length bob I never wear earrings, and there’s no point in having five ear holes into which I never put earrings. And in looking at pictures of me with long hair, I don’t actually *like* long hair on me very much, which suggests short is perhaps the wiser way to go.

OTOH, I should know by now that I shouldn’t get my hair cut when I’m in the middle of writing a book. OTOH, I am never not in the middle of writing a book.

I can see two advantages to cutting it short: one is it would remove most of the bleached stuff, which I use as an excuse to not swim because it would only damage that hair that much more. (I would obviously be obliged to find *another* excuse not to swim, then.) The other is that short hair recovers from hat head more readily, and with summer coming up and the anticipation of wearing a big hat a lot, that’d be nice.

…why don’t I have a CHD icon?

Yeah, I wore short hair for a really long time. It's soooo much less of a pain in the ass. :)

If it's ever a pain in the ass, it's (a) seriously long, and (b) got way too much hair lacquer on it.

See you in a few days!

Yes, other people seem to like how I look with long hair. I mostly don't, though.

Wait, I just saw a picture of you with long hair. You look SO much prettier in that picture you posted here a while ago...was it short or just colored somehow? Long hair makes you look average and your face is so much more interesting to just look average.
Hey, you could always get a perm! LOL

Hey, you could always get a perm! LOL

Oh, God, never again. :)

You mean this picture? Yeah, that was my last haircut. Possibly I just need to get it trimmed and coloured again, but I donno.

09 February 2008, you look like a perky mischievous elf. PERFECT hair cut for your face and fabulous color.

here's this ordinary person with a calico cat.

You're not just ordinary (remember that pedestal) so don't hide behind average hair.

Oh my... I've gotten that disease too! Ever since my sister got married and I chopped all mine off the next day. I went from waist length to chin. It was very traumatic, and apparently very addicting so now all my hair cuts get closer and closer together. It's the shortest its ever been now. I keep wanting to go REALLY short and do like a pixie cut but my husband keeps grumbling it's TOO short and for me to grow it out. I think I'm going to grow it out b/c I want to be able to ponytail it once we finally have kids, which we're trying to do... but that short cut keeps calling to me...

Good luck.

Now, see, I'd make the argument for "short hair is harder for babies to grab and yank" on the whole growing it out vs kids roll thing. :)

My hair has never been *anywhere near* that long. I can't imagine. Oi!

My mom used to call me Rapunzel. :) My first actual haircut was at 7 when my dad was helping me comb it and I was crying it hurt. He walks away, then I hear 'Snip.Snip.Snip.' and 'There, Missy. Your knots are on the floor.' I cried! And mom came home, told me I looked pretty and to go outside and play. Then she proceeded to rip dad a new one. :) Heeheehee... I'll never let him live that down.

And yeah, shorter maybe harder for kids to grab, but it takes less work ifyou don't wash it. When I wake up now with short hair, i have bed head and not in a good way...

Cut it
If you love it, keep it; if not, it'll grow back quickly.

And now they have all these lovely Elfquest comics online to make icons from... =)

I decided I wanted my hair short (As in pixie short) before Christmas and I went in to the hairdressers and she refused to do it.
So if you want short hair, and your hairdresser is willing to give you the cut, I'm going to say -
"Stop talking about it and just do it."

Go now... go on.
(So I can have short hair vicariously through you.)

you could always buy a wig for the days you want a different look....
Hah, I'm just the reverse -- I prefer it short in winter, because of hat-head, and long in the summer, so I can scrape it off my neck more easily!

I actually find short hair more of a pain to keep up, because it requires me remembering to go and get it trimmed on a regular basis. I've compromised on a between-chin-and-shoulders length that seems to work.

Short hair is fabulous. And a good short cut takes 5-10 years off your face. :-D

Your CHD icon keeps turning around and going back to the hair stylist's before making it to LiveJournal.

I found the same problem with earrings and my current bob, so that I've stopped wearing the fun danglies and just have silver hoops in all of the holes. Which is simpler, too, but I'd found some pretty nifty jewelry when my hair was still pixied, and I miss wearing it, sometimes.

I had a bad, terrible experience when I tried to take the chin-length bob to a more dramatic a-line, and now it's a gradual grade and more like mid-cheek, but I still fail to wear earrings. Though I'm wearing hats more often (today's chapeau is a brilliant blue shot through with silver, and has a nifty asymmetrical brim), which is fun.

It's not an official CHD icon, but this one is pretty perfect, anyway, and what I always use when talking about my hair. Would that I were an metamorphmagus!

Well considering the length of my hair - I'm staying out of this one. See you Friday.
