for pity’s sake

We went and got a new case for Ted’s computer, as that appeared to be the best way to resolve the power button issue. He went up to work on it, sliced his hand open, and the power supply failed.

I think the universe is telling us to stay away from computers for a while. *sigh*

My desktop (the one via Myles & Sammy) is up and functional on a new surge protector and a much less-loaded socket in general, so we’ve got one desktop and one laptop online, which is no doubt enough, but it feels weirdly unsocial to have one of us downstairs on the laptop and the other upstairs on a desktop. I mean, I don’t know why, since we’re not really interacting when we’re online anyway, but still, I guess it’s physical proximity.

Anybody want to prepare a care package for the Kit and Ted? There are strange things I can’t get here. Hair spray that I don’t hate, for example. The kind of dental floss I prefer. Other stuff. I shall repay with appropriate amounts of cash, books, fudge*, or any combination thereof.

My small triumph of the day was breaking 30K on THE PRETENDER’S CROWN.

ytd wordcount: 30,200
miles to Minas Tirith: 59.5

*It may not be homemade fudge, but the Irish apparently pride themselves on their fudge. I don’t think I’ve actually eaten any of it.

We do?

I did not know that we prided ourselves on fudge. How about that!

But re the hairspray - I know the feeling - despite spending a fortune on alternatives there is only one product that seems to work for me and when I can't get that I am totally stuck.

You seem to. You sure sell a lot of it in shops. :)
irishkateirishkate on January 24th, 2008 09:37 pm (UTC)
Ah - I understand - we like to eat it. Yes - that would seem to be true although I must say the amount available in shops has gone up enormously, it's not that long since a cadbury's fudge was the only one in the shops.

ps hugs to Ted - that sucks.

Hey. I like making care packages. And I owe you some Ruby Chai and Spicy Maya. :) Do you need more Flintstones?

i'm up for sending you a care package.

So I've been meaning to ask you about the Dalek Cookie Kit, to see if you can find a couple...maybe we can set up an exchange of sorts? ^_^
kitmizkit on January 25th, 2008 08:56 am (UTC)
You know, I never could find the magazine you were looking for. I can certainly take a look around and see if I can find a Dalek Cookie Kit, although possibly you need to hook up with a supplier in the UK instead of Ireland... :)

I would love to put together a swap package! I do online swaps/trades all the time - they're such fun. I have a package going to Japan tomorrow...whee!

Anyhoo, I'd love to help. Please email me direct at deazinn at yahoo dot com. Thanks!

Weird, I usually find that computers work better when I bleed into them.
kitmizkit on January 25th, 2008 08:59 am (UTC)
That was what we expected, but shortly thereafter the power supply blew, so apparently we've offended the computer gods.

Maybe he was the wrong blood type for the power supply.

Nothing like a blood offering.

I'm assuming you're looking for a US-based care package provider? That said, if there's something that Oxford/the Cotswolds can supply that can't be found in the Emerald Isle, drop me a line and I'll see what I can chuck in the case for P-Con.

Sympathies to both on all the computer strife.

Assuming HP actually gets their duff in gear and gives K a firm date so I can buy a plane ticket, we'll be in Dublin (without the kidlet, the grandparents are coming to stay with him) in April. Let me know if there's anything you want me to bring. ;) Not hairspray though, I'm not sure what they'd think about that in my checked luggage ...

Your fudge is better! although I admittedly have not had as much of a sample as Mr Wol. Last year to you gave us a boxful and I had one bit, opened it a few days later and there was one, last tiny piece left. guilt that was all it was. This year, well, there was peanut butter in the top layer which is a bit like setting a honey trap for my poor husband. I think he was grateful though, and not sick at all ;)

How is Ted? That sounds nasty. Can he work? Do you need anything?
