cool campaigns

Nevermind my Kickstarter project (I mean, yes, mind it, it’s less than $350 from the trade paperback!!! but besides that):

Liz Williams is once more doing a crowdfunding campaign SO FREAKING AWESOME that I desperately wish I’d thought of it. Check out Avalon Rising: The Hundred Story Project, which will deliver to its patrons one hundred short stories in 2012 as part of a larger community-building project that she and her partner are working to launch. My mind boggles. Problematically, IndieGoGo is not accepting Paypal right now (they’re working on it, and they *are* accepting credit card payments), so Liz has also set up a Paypal donate button through her Livejournal, and will add any payments that come through there into the IG campaign fund once they’ve got it sorted out.

Or there’s Matt Forbeck, who’s doing a 12 For ’12: a novel a month in 2012. The sheer ambitious insanity of that makes me…want to try it myself, of course, but no, I’ll let Matt do it. :)

And Laura Anne Gilman has just launched a campaign for From Whence You Came, a novella set in her Lands Vin universe. You will perhaps recall me squeeing over that world, where the magic is based in wines. I thought it was a brilliant idea when Laura Anne mentioned it years ago, and I basically held my breath all the way through the wait & reading of the first book because the idea was so good I was afraid nobody could quite live up to it with the writing, but Laura Anne *totally* did, and I was and am thrilled with that. So, um, go support her campaign so I can read the novella. O.O :)

oh holy shit!

oh holy shit! rollover reward UNLOCKED. KS supporters will now have the chance to buy “No Dominion” in trade paperback! Holy shit!

Um! Um! Holy shit! Okay, um, I am trying to pull my thoughts together about this now! Holy *shit*! O.O Um! Okay! Some important things about this!

First: It is automatically included as a reward for anyone subscribing at $100 or more.

Second: As long as you’ve bought into the Kickstarter campaign, you’ll be eligible to buy a copy of the trade paperback.

Third: I’ll be self-publishing the trade paperback through (or something like it), so I don’t yet know exactly what the cost is going to be.

I do know S&H will be $10, worldwide. My *guess* is that, including S&H, the trade cost will be in the region of $25. It may be as little as $20 or as much as $30, but I’m not looking to make a profit on the trades, just get enough done for everyone who’s supported the campaign to have one if they want, so it’ll be as close to cost as I can get it for you guys. But:

Third: in order to introduce a degree of sanity to trying to order the right number of books printed and getting them out to people who want them in a timely fashion, I’m going to set a pre-order deadline of April 1, 2012. If you want a print edition of the novella after that, the price will go up to $40, regardless of what the pre-order cost is. I will be willing to send books out for one calendar year after the novella is published, so up until April 15, 2013, which should give anybody sufficient time to order their copy.

Fourth: You’ll have two ways to buy the book. One is to subscribe to the campaign at $100 or more. The other will be through Paypal, and I’ll keep subscribers updated on how and when it’ll be available to pre-order.

Fifth: This also means I’ll be writing the first chapter of HEAVEN CAN WAIT, the book I’d be writing if the KS campaign reached the silly amount of $30K. So let me add that up for you: your subscription will get you one novella, up to four Walker Papers short stories, one chapter of a book that doesn’t exist, and a bunch of other goodies depending on what level you bought in at. :)

Holy *shit*, guys!
