For those wanting to know more about the recent DDoS attacks, yes, it looks like it was the Russian government trying to shut down the dissidents again.

As I said last time, while it's frustrating not to have access, LJ is a lot more than a social network platform. From the article:

"LiveJournal isn’t just a social network. It’s also a platform for organizing civic action. Dozens of network projects and groups mobilize people to solve specific problems — from defending the rights of political prisoners to saving endangered historic architecture in Moscow."

So while I know many are considering the move over to Dreamwidth and other such sites, supporting LJ is a way we can help support those who use it for more than a writing/roleplaying/social venue.

Also, as a FYI, LJ is giving paid users effected by the outage two weeks of paid time as compensation.

not dead!

Not dead. All my spare processing time the past week has been taken up by re-reading the Continuing Time novels. I stayed up way too late last night finishing THE LAST DANCER because I knew if I didn’t finish it yesterday then yet another work day would be shot to hell by me reading instead of writing. It appears that they’ve aged well, if they all kept me up too late. I cannot wait to read THE BIG BOOST, but I also cannot read it until I have at least 2 and ideally 3 of my pending work projects done.

So, on the plate in the immediate future:

- proposal for WP #8
- finish REDEEMER proposal
- write a short story for Alexis

and about six hundred other things but they are not IMMEDIATE and i can read THE BIG BOOST before i do them. maybe. probably. if i’m good. :)

impossible things

It’s almost impossible that “Womanthology”, the all-women comics anthology Kickstarter project, can reach $100K in the next 61 hours, but if you want to help make it happen…

Seriously, this is a project I wish to hell I’d known about before it launched. It means a lot to me to see women working in the comics field–my letterer on Chance was a woman, and I hope very dearly that if we make ElectriCity go that we’ll get a woman colorist*, because it’s important to me to work with other women on my comics projects. If they do a second Womanthology I hope to participate, and either way they rock my socks for accomplishing what they already have.

I wish I could offer, like, half a dozen copies of Chance as incentive for people to support Womanthology, but I just don’t have them, not even in individual format, nevermind a graphic novel**. So I guess you’ll have to just check the anthology out and decide if you want to support it even without hope of a bribe. :)

*This is assuming we get the person we’re after for the pencils/inks. If that person, who is a guy, cannot do it, frankly I’ll favor any female artists who come to me with the right style. Ultimately the style is most important, but *man* would I like to get another girl on the team.

**I can’t even remember anymore if I’ve discussed the Dabel Debacle much, at least in public. I suppose I should at some point at least clarify what went wrong…

Seriously, people? *Seriously*?

There’s been a futher in the comics world. Two of them, in fact.

Futher #1 is that Laurence Fishburne has been cast as Perry White in the new Superman movie.

Futher #2 is that in the Ultimates world, they’ve killed off Peter Parker and the new Spider-Man is Miles Morales, a black/Latino kid.

Both of these things are apparently unforgiveable to a vocal segment of comics fans because PERRY AND SPIDER-MAN ARE WHITE DUDES.

Seriously, people? I mean, really? *Seriously*?

Okay, possibly I’m not the go-to girl on this, because I thought Taye Diggs would make a perfect Gambit (the kid who played Gambit was fine. But Diggs is unspeakably gorgeous and absurdly charming, which in my book are the two most necessary qualifications for Gambit). But *seriously*? There are people out there who don’t think Laurence Freaking Fishburne would be an *awesome* Perry White? OMG. I have never heard such insanity. He’ll be a riot. He’ll be *perfect*.

And as for Spider-Man, excuse me, but WTF? I mean, okay, it’d be one thing if it was Peter Parker ripping off a Mission: Impossible II-style mask and revealing himself as a black man, but come *on*. It’s a brand-new Spidey. It is, for pity’s sake, the *Ultimate* Spider-Man: Spidey in a world that’s meant to be closer to ours, starting around Y2K, than the Marvel Universe dating back to the 60s. And people are whinging because Spidey’s not a skinny white kid from Queens?

I would say I’m speechless, except I’m obviously not. I just, I mean, Jesus, wow. These people are not living on the same planet I am. Or perhaps more accurately, I sort of wish they weren’t…
