level up!

I have leveled up in Pilates. There’s an exercise called ‘the Teaser’, which, at the beginning level, consists of lying on your back with your legs at a 45 degree angle, feet against a wall. You elevate your feet slightly so they’re no longer against the wall, and then, using your stomach muscles only–ie, without throwing your head and shoulders forward for momentum, which is the tricky part–you roll up until you’re sitting on your bottom and have brought your arms into parallel with your legs:

It’s startlingly hard, by far the most difficult of the beginner-level exercises I’ve been doing, and until Tuesday I’d never actually been able to pull myself up onto my tailbone. I could get the small of my back a little ways off the floor, but I couldn’t get up to the full V. Now I can! Level up!

It doesn’t mean I’m starting on the intermediate stuff, though (although I’m doing a number of the exercises at the intermediate level). I think what I’ll start doing is going through this routine twice when I do it. After a month of that I’ll probably be able to manage more of the intermediate exercises (of which there are twice as many).

trying to find the zone

I fear today may be a day of many posts. I’m finding–not just today, when I’m trying to get JvC started, but in general–that I’m spending a great deal of time screwing around when I’m at Nook, my writing computer. It’s the moral equivalent of playing Solitaire all the time, although I don’t actually have any games on that computer anymore. But I blew through the last chapter of TRUTHSEEKER when I moved to the laptop, so I’m kind of thinking that perhaps I’m desperately in need of a change of venue*. The liveblogging thing helped me too, although probably if I do that I’ll put it on toonowrimo, my writing community.

The problem with writing at the laptop is my shoulder, which is already not keen on the idea. I’m trying to figure out if I can stabilize myself sufficiently that it won’t be a problem, although the inherent shape of the keyboard /is/ a problem. And no, I don’t think attaching a different keyboard would actually solve the trouble, but thanks for suggesting it. Typing with only my left hand would solve it, but I’m too well-trained a typist to do that; I just pretty much couldn’t type at *all* when my right hand was broken/sprained/whatever happened to it. So I don’t know. I may have to just really suck it up and force the issue at the writing computer, but meh. Sitting somewhere else would be nice.

*What I’m really in desperate need of is six or twelve months off, but I’m not going to get that, so I’m trying the change of venue thing.

posty ms. posts-a-lot

See, I told you. Lots of posts. :p (and I am of course typing at the laptop, so either I’m not suffering that much or I’m really stupid.)

I thought I’d start the weight loss chat room this coming Sunday, the 5th of April. The most widely agreeable time was ‘open at chat room at 9am Pacific and let it run all day’, which translates to running–at least with me as a participant–until about 1pm Pacific/5pm Eastern/10pm Greenwich, so that’s what I’ll do, and I’ll sort of assume that the peak participation time will be around noon Pacific/4pm Eastern/9pm Greenwich.

Totally non-related, I’ve been observing the various bushes and plants and trees we’ve planted, and so far the apple tree and the cherry tree seem to be doing very well, as are the strawberries. Some of the raspberry plants are starting to get leaves, and I have one planter that looks suspiciously like it’s been planted with sticks and nothing else. :) But then, the other day I was thinking in terms of planting and growing things and my brain decided it must be late June, because it was utterly absurd to be planting things in the middle of March. In the land of my people the earth is still buried beneath several feet of snow in the middle of March. :)

Fairly random question, because I haven’t been doing much with kitsnaps anyway, but if it was set up in a more typical blog format, with scroll-down for older entries instead of click-throughs, would that be more appealing? It just struck me that the photoblog I like best is set up that way. Hm.

Oh, right. Extending the PRETENDER’S CROWN contest through the weekend and up til next Tuesday, ’cause people’ve asked if they could have the weekend so they can look at the book again and think harder. I’ve loved some of the ideas that’ve come through…and you don’t have to cast *everybody*! I didn’t mean to make it so hard! :)

Tonight we’re going to the pool and I’m going to start teaching Ted how to swim (as opposed to stay alive in the water, which he’s quite competent at). Hopefully we won’t end up wanting to kill each other. :)

I think I’ll go finish reading a book now.
