oh, is it 2017?

I see I’ve managed to get ten days into the new year without posting. In my defense, I’ve been writing, which is a nice change of pace. In fact, I seem to have been taken by an Attack Book, so I’m going to run with it to the end and see how that goes.

We’ve finished watching season 3 of Miss Fisher, and were horrified to find that it was only 8 episodes long! Which we found out when the 8th episode ended and Netflix flipped to “what would you like to watch next”. We shrieked in horror and have been flailing about ever since.

What a wonderful show. I want to cut my hair into a bob and do a million pushups so I have arms like hers and wear fabulous clothes. I don’t necessarily need to solve murders, but flirting outrageously with Nathan Page sounds pretty good. What a great show. What great costumes. *flails* :)

Other than that, I’ve read a couple books so far this year, which is off to a good start. I haven’t started doing anything amazingly fitness-oriented, like losing the 10 pounds I’ve regained or even, y’know, some pushups. I seem to have no willpower when it comes to sweets, and I know the answer to a lack of willpower is “do not put temptation in your grasp” but I keep doing it anyway.

I haven’t started doing more art, or coloring, or studying a language. I haven’t begun listening to more music (and you’d think that one would be easy). There are, to quote a certain modestly popular musical of the day, a million things I haven’t done.

But just you wait.

Just you wait.

:)

I started watching Miss Fisher some time ago. I have to get back to that. And if it makes you feel any better, I only did one blog post so far (about the new tarot deck) and one coming out tomorrow about two of my cats turning 15.

And I DO NOT wish to talk about weight gained (thanks in my case to a screwed up knee, alas).

Happy writing!

We enjoyed the TV enough that I put Miss Fisher vol 1 ("Cocaine Blues") into Karen's Christmas stocking.

This may have been ... ill-judged. There have already been intemperate demands for vols 2 & 3, which I have gratified. I understand there are quite a lot more vols yet to come. Hey-ho.

It's clear to us that we're going to have to turn to the books, too, yeah. :)

I still think it's desperately wrong for her to be in her late 20s in the books, though!

My first response after finishing S3 was to re-watch S3.

And then I went out and binge read all 20 books.

The movie needs to get made and come out already!

I've wondered where you've been. Glad to hear you've been writing. :)

Stupid way too short flashback teasing us with a John Noble as her late uncle.

Miss Fisher is an utter delight. Though I'm apparently somewhat of an outlier in that I prefer free love Phryne to Jack is her true love Phryne.

Yes. Me too. But I came to the books first so was a bit irritated by shat the TV version changed. And was astonished by the appearance of the car. I had had a mental image that was closer to a later Duesenberg.

I've only watched the series so far, so it's not a case of expectations overturned for me, it's that Jack is clearly a guy who will only be satisfied with a monogamous relationship. And there's nothing wrong with that, if that's the way your partner also works. But in this case, it would mean Phryne changing herself in profound ways to suit Jack, and I do not like that at all.

Plus, there was at least one episode last season where he was very unpleasantly sexually jealous and contemptuous of Phryne. He more or less apologized at the end, but I just don't see it being a healthy relationship when they incorporate sex into it.

The Jack in the books is much nicer - and happily married - !

The audio book reader for the series is absolutely fantastic too. She does the voices and various accents really really well.
