man flu

Judging from the series of pathetic sounds I was making earlier, I have Man Flu. :) (I feel that if my husband moaning and moping around like I was doing means he’s got the Man Flu, it’s only fair that I should too.) Anyway, it’s sick in this house. Poor Ted is actually the only one who isn’t sick, and he was driven out of our bedroom last night by my snoring, out of Young Indy’s by his snorting, and out of ours AGAIN by my snoring, only to end up on the couch, where nobody gets any good sleep. Poor guy.

For my own part, at 1:30am I remembered the presence of Vicks in our house, and spread it liberally beneath my nose and got a whole three hours of practically uninterrupted sleep before it stopped working, even with further application. We’re all pretty pathetic here. @.@

Less pathetic is the Redeemer Chronicles Kickstarter, which I suspect my friend E thinks I should be promoting harder. :) It’s approaching the midway mark, which I have fond hopes of it reaching by tomorrow, 1 week in to the campaign. :) I’ve added three new reward tiers. One of them involves fudge!

*laughs* Last Thursday or so Ted read the REDEEMER teaser chapters and said “OMG. I hope this thing funds, because I want to know what happens!!!!” Ted doesn’t usually read my works in progress, so this was something of a triumph for me. :) :) :)

Ted made red beans & rice last night. Today I’ve got a crock pot of ham & bean soup, using the left over juice from the red beans, as the flavour base. I bet it smells really good. I just can’t tell. :)

I notice you added some tiers and the tiers all beneath them say "as above" -- which NOW looks like it means those tiers get things like fudge and signed hardcovers when they didn't before. You might want to clarify what those tiers get in the FAQ.

Yeah, I can't edit some of the tiers, so yeah. THanks for reminding me.

*grin* You're right, I do. Considering my experience with the "Best of Town" awards, I've seen a dramatic difference in results when I promote it versus when I don't. Besides, it's not like you're farting around selling lemonade; this is how you make your living.

I have some thinky-thoughts on your expressed desire to reach new readers, rather than continuing with the same core readership you've got. I was wondering about some sort of referral plan, something about if you could figure out new readers versus current readers by login IDs, and then I realized that you could make number of participants
a stretch goal.

Ideally, you'd want something easy and inexpensive to distributedistribute, so digital would be a good way to go. If you reach X number of participants, access to a screen saver of the cover? You could do some of your photos, but the cover would be more thematically relevant.

X + Y participants gets access to a Sekrit File which is essentially a Director's Notes on the writing process of this story? People are fascinated by the creative process, particularly writing and film. (Increase this to the nth degree for people who want to become published authors themselves.) After all, "where do you get your ideas?" is one of the standard questions, right?

Personally, I have to say I absolutely love watching you brainstorm about the whole Ghost Peninsula idea. And after reading Cherie Priest's Boneshaker, I went back to her journal and read through her process of writing it. If you did a Director's Notes, you could either release access to the file afterwards, or turn the production into more of a performance art where you blog as you go.

X + Y + Z, either money or participants, gets name entered into a drawing in which you, a Well-Published author, will take a look at someone's manuscript and give feedback? Signed hardback copy of book with personal inscription? If you can't do any sort of "lottery," just make it a high-end money goal.

Thanks for the reminder. I emailed the link to myself and pledged from the iphone, since I never could get NoScript to play nicely with kickstarter.

I skimmed past this and read "math flu".

I just thought I'd share... Feel better soon!

Fell better soon! I am trying really hard not to come down with the cold my friend came down with the day after she visited me...
