a kitsnaps poll
There's a womens' arts festival/exhibiton in Cork in April, and people are invited to submit...well, exhibitions. So I thought I'd submit a themed photograhy suite to it, and am now trying to decide *what* to submit. I've put together four themed photo sets, and am now throwing it open to LJ to see which set you guys like best and think I should submit.

All the images should click through to larger versions of themselves. I couldn't make the photos actually settle in with the voting options, so they're below 'em.

Poll #1142678 kitsnaps poll

Which of these themed sets should I submit to the photo exhibition?

I voted for churches, because I love church architecture. :-) Where was the second church photo taken? The color is stunning.

It's Passage West, across the water from Cobh in County Cork. I've forgotten what church exactly it is, but I think it looks like a fairy tale. :)

I'd go for the graqveyards, because shot 5 is definitely your best chance at getting Alban in, thus cross-promoting your work.

Oh, hold on. You don't self-promote :-)

While they're all lovely, I like the water theme best. I think because there's more variety in the pictures.

They're all lovely- but the graveyard shots are especially gorgeous.

Ever think of selling prints of some of these? Or postcards or the like . . . ?

Frequently. I just sort of don't know how. :)

Deviantart.com will set you up with prints and the like but they're pretty price-gouge-y. Some artists just print the pictures out on photo stock with laser-jet printers and call it good. Hmmm. I wonder if CafePress offers prints?

Yeah. I sort of need something Really Easy to deal with, because otherwise I won't do it. Watching the response to the graveyard photos, I'm wondering if I could sell those as 4x6 or 5x7" print sets or something. Donno if people would be interested, is the thing, and I have no idea how much one would charge...

I'd get the graveyard ones for my best friend, she's got the goth thing goin' on liek woah. So count me as interested. Um . . . I don't know, price seems to be largely a matter of whim. If you check out the deviant art prints section (and don't get distracted by the pretties) you'll see they sort of let the dudes set their own price . . .

The Daily Coyote charges a bit more than I could afford on a good day, to touch on the other end of the spectrum.

There's also the point that if you go through deviant art or Cafepress or whatever, they'll take a goodly portion of the price. So I guess it depends on how much you want to make off the endeavor.

I looked it up on CafePress --> http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/?id=7 It doesn't look too bad at all, really. And there's all sorts of choices.

Cafe Press?

Or check with whatever passes for the Dept of Tourism in your city and see who does their promotional postcards.

I'm pretty sure Lulu will do stuff like that as well as straight POD books. An Irish friend of mine now living in Nova Scotia did prints and a calendar of her landscapes that might be the sort of thing you're thinking of. (See http://stores.lulu.com/queenie for example.)

On the subject of topics, your flist are a morbid lot. Just sayin'.

I was just going to chime in remark how we're quite a macabre little group of people. But seriously, the graveyard set is absolutely breathtaking among a whole group of beautiful work.

As an aside, my favorite shot that *I* took while we were visiting Ireland several years ago was a graveyard shot (looking past a stone cross and off the top of the Rock of Cashel)...unfortunately, I'm a mediocre photographer and had a point-and-click camera. I wish I could see what you'd have done with the same view :)

Do you have a copy of the photo? I took quite a number of shots at Cashel in September. I might have something to compare it to. Is it that big huge cross at the back of the graveyard next to the wall?

Close to the wall, I think. Here it is.

My second favorite, looking back up from the abbey at the bottom of the hill.

Wow, not only can you write, but your a wonderful photographer too! I've seen random of your shots, but when you put them all together in a collections, they are, just wow.

I liked the graveyard the very best, but it was closely followed by by the churches. After that, I liked the water then the flowers.

If I may suggest--- seeing as that it is a women's exhibition that you might consider a "Women of Ireland" photo-exhibit instead?

I might have enough photos to pull it off, but I don't have release forms for anybody I've taken pictures of, so, no.

Thank you!! And if you do find a way, then I will gladly order a copy. I think it would go wonderfully in my kitchen. It's kind of kitchy and international. I have a bright apron from Lebanon, a linen wall hanging from Ireland, tea sets from Japan, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, England and Scotland, Russian spice caddy, Turkish coffee set, Japanese saki set... and more, I'm sure. :) But the bright colors will fit in perfectly.

As one who loves photography, my second favorite hobby next to reading, I find all of the pictures beautiful, but the graveyards much more interesting to the eye in that you cannot look at them with a glance to take them all in.
