So we have to move. Again.

So we have to move. Again.

Our landlord died and the people who inherited the house have decided to sell it. (Precisely the same thing is happening to my sister right now.)1qq We don’t know when exactly we have to be out, but we have to be out. We also don’t know where exactly we’re going to end up, because the median rent in Dublin is more than we’re currently paying, which is more than we can actually afford, which means: not Dublin. Ted’s job is north of Dublin, so unless circumstances change, we’ll be going north. Somewhere. But most of the commutable distances are also getting vastly more expensive because nobody can afford to live in Dublin! It’s all very exciting.

I have, and I am not joking, a 70 point Preparation For Moving bullet list. (I counted. It really is 70 points.) I’ve spent the past ten days or so working on it. Much of it–most of it–is a room-by-room “get rid of stuff” list, with details on what I need to do/have/accomplish to Get Rid Of Things. This bullet list does not, sadly, include, say, packing, or finding somewhere to live. Or, indeed, me getting any actual work done.

I’m getting a tiny bit of work done anyway. I’m working on the crossover/fan fiction by the authors themselves/mashup Greywalker Papers story with Kat Richardson, and it’s GREAT FUN. It’s not, though, revising either book I have to finish revising, or writing REDEEMER, which was supposed to be my May project. The best-laid plans, etc etc etc.

The Get Rid Of Things side of things is going fairly well. I’m ripping CDs. We have a lot of great music we never listen to. I’m collapsing our TV on DVD into DVD wallets so it takes up about an eighth of the space it currently does, which will do my soul a gladness. I’m washing vast amounts of baby-and-small-child clothes and intend to bestow them upon other people. We have to do…something…about the graphic novels. Possibly re-read them all and see what we actually want to keep. So on and so forth for another 60 or so bullet points.

Anyway, the result of all this is I feel exceptionally un-bloggy, not so much that I don’t want to but almost literally all I’m doing is packing prep, which doesn’t make for a very exciting journal topic.

So, uh, that’s the fun going on here. How are you? O.O

Jeez. I read the title of the blog before clicking on it and literally said out loud: ARE YOU SERIOUS? (I may have scared a cat.) I can't believe you have to deal with this, just as you were finally getting settled in. *hugs*

I'd come help you get rid of things and pack--I'm really good at both--except, you know, far far away.

My condolences on not getting things done. I am a) trying to get the garden in (normal temps here are about 65 for May, last week was 90+, this morning was 32 and the furnace kicked back on--not helping), b) dealing with the fact that the new boiler/furnace I had put in back in March to the tune of $4,600 isn't working the way it is supposed to and trying to figure out what to do next, and c) dealing with the edits from hell from an editor whose edits I normally find reasonable and easy to deal with. Also, d) the new kitty is insane and my giant gray cat keeps trying to kill her.

On the bright side, I'm not moving. So you still win. *hands you chocolate*

OMG. Call the bastards who put in the furnace and tell them to come fix that fucker!

I actually intend to call the bastards and tell them to take the fucker back and give me something that works the way it is supposed to. (They've already tried "tweaking" it twice.) And I just found out that they seriously overcharged me. OY.

Moving AGAIN oh that sucks I'm sorry....

*screeching halt*

Wait.

You're doing a crossover with KAT RICHARDSON?

I must read this. :D
kitmizkit on May 14th, 2015 05:49 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it's going to be part of a whole anthology of these kinds of crossovers! We're having SO much fun!

Awesome!

.oO (Meanwhile, Kendis is over here wondering about all these OTHER supernatural people in Seattle she apparently never sees... >:D )

Idle wondering.. Would the new owners consider a lease purchase agreement and is that something you would even want?
kitmizkit on May 14th, 2015 05:49 pm (UTC)
With the market as it is here, they can probably get a cash buyer for more than we could ever afford, within six weeks. :}

Oh good grief. :( :(

I'm sending 'perfect (and affordable) house' wishes your way.

I think I've already expressed AUGH at you over the impending forced move, but in case I haven't: AUGH.

the result of all this is I feel exceptionally un-bloggy, not so much that I don’t want to but almost literally all I’m doing is packing prep, which doesn’t make for a very exciting journal topic.

I'm pretty sure we've had this conversation before, but: personally, blogging about something like 'here's all this shit I have gotten done and here's all the shit I still need to do' helps me, by both reinforcing the positive (I am getting shit done!) and helping me to focus on 'what's next'?

So...I enjoy reading your 'not very exciting journal topic' unblogs. I'm here with pom-poms, good luck thoughts to the universe, and a good tea for when you need a break.

^^ This.

And if you blog about it, we can all commiserate on the moving crapola. And perhaps you can give some good ideas to people who have to move In The Future.

I think at this very second if someone told me I had the choice between a root canal and moving...

Well I guess I'd have to ask where we're moving TO because certain upgrades would be nice.

But mostly I'm pretty sure I'd go for the root canal because OMG moving sucks.

Augh. HUGS

The bullet point list seems nice. At least you have a very detailed plan!

good luck on your move.

My sisters landlady has decided to move back to Oregon into the house, so I am currently watching my sister try and downsize a 3 bedroom 2 car garage into a 600 sq ft place and a 10x15 storage unit. Maybe this time she will downsize, because no one in the family that has helped her move in the past is willing to help her move now.

BUT YOU PLANTED THINGS! I am so sorry.

Your packing and so on may well be more exciting to us than to you. But I guess that doesn't make it any more entertaining to write.

Best of luck finding a place you like that doesn't cost the earth.

70 point moving list
So sorry to hear about the need to move.

Care to share your list? (or a generic one?)
Be well.
